Sotirios Theofanis is an internationally recognized expert in port planning, operations, and management, with extensive experience in shipping, freight transport, and maritime logistics. He served as Chairman and CEO of Thessaloniki Port Authority SA (2018–2020), leading its post-privatization restructuring and strategic development. Previously, he coordinated the consortium that acquired a majority stake in the port (2013–2017). As Acting Director for Ports at Greece's Ministry of Merchant Marine (1997–1999), he led the corporatization of public port authorities and oversaw the successful listing of Thessaloniki and Piraeus ports on the Athens Stock Exchange. He was Director for Strategic Planning at Rutgers University’s CAIT and co-directed its Freight and Maritime Program (2005–2012). Theofanis has provided senior advisory services in 16 countries across over 40 projects, focusing on port strategy, logistics, privatization, and restructuring. He is a founding member and former Executive Committee member of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) and was named ESPO’s Port Professional of the Month in April 2019. In March 2022, he was awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the University of York Management School.
